Why it works
Calmly stating the fact and labeling the behavior, without accusation or a lecture about trust, keeps your child from having to defend a lie on top of the original slip. Understanding what drove it matters more than treating every incident the same.
The line for you: This is about a want they didn't know how to voice, not proof my child is dishonest.
